Healthcare Programs

You can pursue a job in the healthcare field even if you don’t have many years to spend in school. In fact, the following healthcare education programs in NYC allow you to complete your education in a year or less for a Certificate and two years or less for an Associate Degree.

Healthcare Management Associate Degree Program (AOS)

This program is designed to take two years or less to complete and will prepare you to take an entry-level position as a Medical Secretary, Medical Transcriptionist, Medical Biller or Medical Administrative Assistant.

Coursework emphasizes critical thinking and hands-on applications skills. You will gain knowledge of and practice in many areas, including human anatomy, medical terminology, medical document processing, human relations and medical law and ethics.

Upon completing the program, you’ll be able to:

  • Function as an assistant to a healthcare manager and perform front desk duties.
  • Manage patients and medical personnel on the telephone and make appointments.
  • Ensure operating systems are working on a daily basis.
  • Ensure patient preparedness on a daily basis.
  • Handle routine clerical duties in a medical facility, including transcription of medical reports and insurance forms.
  • Take the Certified Medical Administrative Specialist exam with the American Medical Technologist and/or the Certified Medical Administrative Assistant exam with The National Healthcare Association.

Medical Administrative Assistant Certificate Program

This certification program prepares you for the entry-level position of medical administrative assistant and is designed to take one year or less to complete. Upon completion of this program, you will be able to:

  • Handle routine clerical duties in a medical facility, such as transcribing medical reports and composing/teen routine correspondence.
  • Function as a front desk assistant and assist patients and medical personnel in person and on the telephone.
  • Make appointments.
  • Interact with patients.
  • Carry out medical personnel instructions.
  • Be knowledgeable about and be able to use relevant medical terminology.
  • Understand and follow the laws and ethics of the medical community.
  • Take the Certified Medical Administrative Assistant exam with the National Healthcare Association.

Medical Billing & Coding Associate Degree Program (AOS)

This degree program prepares students for careers in healthcare facilities as billers and coders with a proficiency in the medical billing process.

Upon completion of the program students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate proficiency in the medical and billing process through use of ICD 10 codes.
  • Understand basic human anatomy.
  • Understand and abide by the laws and ethics of the medical community.
  • Apply basic accounting principles as they relate to medical billing.
  • Demonstrate proficient use of relevant medical terminology.
  • Students will have the opportunity to sit for the Insurance and Coding Specialist exam which is offered by the National Center for Competency Testing.

Medical Billing & Coding Certificate Program

This certificate program prepares current healthcare professionals who lack the information or ability to work with CPT codes and billing for the National Center for Competency testing examination for an Insurance and Coding Specialist.

Upon completion of the program students will be able to:

Certified Medical Assistant Specialist (CMAS)

This certification is an entry level supervisory certification in the healthcare field. An individual with an Associate Degree in Health Management, the 160 hour internship and the CMAS certification is able to enter the job market fully trainable as an entry level supervisor and serve as a supervisory assistant to a health care manager.

Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA)

This certification is for the medical assistant and it’s great for anyone entering the medical industry for the first time. Both degree and certificate students are eligible to take the exam. An individual with a degree in Health Management, Medical Office Specialist or Health Information Technology or a certificate in Medical Office Administration are eligible to take the exam and can expect to enter the workplace as an entry-level medical administrative assistant with the opportunity to gain experience and advance to higher employment levels.
